How Septic Hydro Jetting Works
A jetting nozzle is fed through the inlet line, the outlet baffle or the distribution box and driven through the pipe under high pressure. Forward jets break up the blockage while rear jets scour the pipe wall and flush sludge, roots, sand and biomat back to a point where it can be pumped out.
LCI pumps the tank first so the debris has somewhere to go, then jets each run and confirms flow before we leave.
Whole-House Jetting for Septic Homes
A home on septic has one path for everything. When the kitchen line, the main drain and the tank inlet are all coated in grease and scale, a single backup can take the whole house down.
We can jet the entire house system in one visit, from the fixture branches to the tank, and pair it with a pump-out so you start clean.
Jetting vs. Digging
Jetting is the least invasive way to restore flow through a drain field. When the laterals are intact but packed with solids or roots, jetting restores them in place. When a camera shows a crushed or separated pipe, jetting will not hold and we move to repair . Either way you get the findings before we recommend anything.
How hydro jetting works
Snaking vs. hydro jetting
Jetting is like power washing a pipe from the inside. A cable punches a path through a clog. Jetting removes the buildup that caused it.
Side view and cross-section
- How it works
- A rotating cable bores a hole through the clog.
- What is left behind
- Grease and scale stay on the walls, so the line narrows again.
- Best for
- A simple, one-time obstruction.
- How it works
- High-pressure water scours the full pipe wall.
- What is left behind
- Buildup is flushed down the line, so the pipe runs close to its original size.
- Best for
- Grease, scale, sand, roots and clogs that keep coming back.
The process
How we jet a line
- 01
Camera the line
We inspect first to confirm the pipe can take jetting and see what is in it.
- 02
Match the pressure
Pressure and nozzle are set for the pipe material and condition.
- 03
Cut and scour
Forward jets break up the blockage. Rear jets scour grease, scale, sand and roots off the walls.
- 04
Flush it out
The water carries the debris down the line and out of the system.
- 05
Confirm the flow
We check that the line drains freely before we leave.
FAQ
Septic & Drain Field Hydro Jetting: common questions
Can you hydro jet a drain field?
Yes. The distribution box and lateral lines can be jetted to clear solids, roots and biomat as long as the pipe is structurally sound. It is often paired with drain field rejuvenation for a lasting result.
Will jetting damage my septic tank or pipes?
Not when it is done at the right pressure for the pipe. LCI inspects first and adjusts pressure for older clay, cast iron or thin-wall PVC lines.
How often should septic lines be jetted?
Most homes only need it when flow slows down. Homes with heavy use, root intrusion or a history of backups benefit from jetting on a set schedule alongside routine pumping.
Do you jet plumbing lines too?
Yes. LCI hydro jets kitchen, bath and main drain lines for homes and businesses on city sewer as well. See our hydro jetting service for details.
So nice to have a company that actually knows what they are doing. Had two companies come to find my septic tank with no luck. Joel able to find the tank in five minutes. My tank was serviced and my drain field rejuvenated. Couldn’t have asked for a better service.

Heather is so sweet and accommodating for scheduling. This is our second time using LCI. We used LCI for pumping our septic and jetting our plumbing lines after. Can’t go wrong with using LCI.
